Burial Service Will immediately follow the funeral service at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton Thursday, February 19th, 2015

Those left to honor Fred's memory are his wife of 66+ years, Marjorie of Newton children, Bill (Bette) Nelson of Thornton, Colorado and Larry (Becky) Nelson of Newton; his four grandchildren, Braedi (Dan) Tagart of Thornton, Colorado Brian (Leslie) Nelson of Forsyth, Georgia Scott Nelson of West Des Moines, Iowa Laura Nelson of Altoona; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Will, Anna, Elle, Ava, Mac and Kate; his sister, Roberta Jones of Newton; his sister-in-law, Margaret Nelson Owens of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred served his country in the U. S. Air Force during WWII.

Fred was a graduate of Newton High School.

Fred was a member of the American Legion Post 111, VFW Post 1655 and the Elks Lodge 1270 in Newton. His family was very important to him, he coached his sons in sports as they grew up and then he followed and watched his grandchildren play in their sporting events. He raised, showed, bought and sold American Quarter Horses. He later got involved collecting antique John Deere tractors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the donor’s choice. Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Nelson Family on the envelope.
