Ruth Elva Vander Kraan, age 86 of Prairie City, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Cottages in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. There will be an open visitation on Friday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Ruth Vander Kraan Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Ruth Elva, daughter of Matthew and Delia (Beerends) DeJong, was born on January 2, 1929, near Pella, Iowa. She attended rural grade school and Pella High School. She worked as a secretary for five years and married Wilbur Vander Kraan on August 21, 1953. They lived on a farm near Prairie City, and were blessed with three daughters. Ruth enjoyed being outdoors, growing flowers and helping Wilbur. She was devoted to her family and to her God. She made profession of her faith as a young person, and was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ and the Prairie City Christian Church.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Wilbur; her daughters, Linda (Ray) Chapman, Letha (Kevin) Schnoebelen, and Lorna (Chris) Walraven; four grandchildren, Nathan and Jessica Schnoebelen and Trent and Seth Walraven; and three great grandchildren, Tate, Avalonna and Acheron.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Edna Hiemstra and a niece Laura Geery. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 3 Feb 2015.
