Decker, Jane Eliza Hannon – 1850-1911

Death of Mrs. Decker Tuesday P.M.
After a lingering illness caused by a complication of diseases, Mrs. J, E. Decker passed away Tuesday afternoon about 3:30 o’clock in the Mrs. E. T. Dickson house where the deceased and her daughter, Mae, lived.
Jane Eliza Hannon was the daughter of Robert and Katherine Hannon. She was born in Beavertown, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1850. When a girl she moved with her parents to Brooklyn, Iowa and later they moved to Grinnell where her father had a buggy factory.
Deceased was united in marriage to Jackson Decker February 22nd, 1875. The husband passed away October 6, 1906, and two years ago the wife and daughter, Mae, came to Newton to reside.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Decker: James of Muscatine, Mrs. William Rivers of this city, Mrs. Nate Clark of Ewart, Mrs. Lee Carroll of Tellurido, Colorado, and Miss Mae who lived with the mother. Two children died when very young.
Deceased was a member of the Baptist church and was a good true woman possessing many friends. A brief service will be held tomorrow morning after which the funeral party will go to Grinnell, accompanied by the local Baptist minister, Rev. Thomas, who will have charge of the services at 11 o’clock from the Baptist church.
