Hazel Mae Peterson, the daughter of Chris and Dorothy May (Plantz) Peterson, was born on November 17, 1939 in Pocahontas, Iowa. She graduted from Pocahontas High School, received her BA at Wayne State College, and her MA from NE Missouri State (now Truman State). Hazel was a school teacher for over 39 years teaching in Clear Lake for 6 years, Ida Grove for 2 years, and 31 years in the Kellogg/Newton Community School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Jasper County Retired School Personnel Association.

Hazel is survived by her sister, Joan (Al) Foote of Baxter; brother-in-law, Dale Boerhave; and many good friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Peterson; and sister, Carol Boerhave. Per Hazel's wishes her body has been cremated and no services are scheduled. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 7 Jan 2015.
