Betty Lou Bowman Johnston, 49, of Osceola, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. Betty was born Sept. 25, 1965, to Larry Bowman and Kathy (Huetter) Grimes in Newton. She attended Newton schools. Betty was united in marriage with Ed Johnston in 2010, and worked at Casey’s in Osceola. Betty was a gifted cook and was known for making ham balls. She also liked to ride motorcycles, go hunting, fishing, camping and quilt. More than anything she was dedicated to her family.

Those left to honor Betty’s memory are her husband, Ed; sons, Joe and Josh (Mary) Nelson; daughter, Nicole (Joshua) Gummert; stepchildren, Katie and Rebecca Johnston; her sisters, Margaret Hodges, Lori (Chuck) Williams, Michelle (Shane) Bender and Patricia Bowman; her parents, Larry (Loretta) Bowman and Kathy Grimes; grandchildren Sophia, Lucas, Grace, Jessica, Jonathon, Jacob, Daniel, Gracie and Nevaeh. Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sailor and Lucille Hayes and Cliff and Betty Snook.
