Richard "Dick" Thomas, 78, of Runnells, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on January 3, 2015, surrounded with love by his family. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5 at Runnells Christian Church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at Runnells Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. on January 6. Interment will be held at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Runnells Christian Church of which he was a member. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

He was born on October 24, 1936, to William H. and Lona Thomas. He wed his wife, Janice, on June 2, 1961. Dick was inducted into the US Army in 1959, where he served 2 years which included a 13-month deployment in South Korea. Dick retired from John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny in 1992, after 35 1/2 years. After retirement, he kept active by driving for Mid-States Ford for several years. Dick spent his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

Those left to honor his memory include his beautiful wife; daughter, Stephanie (Todd) Ross; son Todd Thomas; four grandchildren, Janae (BJ) Leo, Jameson (Meagan Morrison) Ross, Logan and Hannah Thomas, great-grandchildren Mylie and Cashlyn Leo; a sister, Thelma Freel, sister-in-law, Lilith Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Howard, Ed, and Dale Thomas. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 3 Jan 2015.
