Is Found Dead
Kellogg Woman Dies Suddenly Sunday Morning – Funeral to be Held Tomorrow
Special to The Daily News
Kellogg, Iowa, July 2 – Mrs. Electa Nellis was found dead in bed by her brother, Thomas Birchard, at her home here at 6 o’clock Sunday morning.
This same brother found Mrs. Nellis’ husband, who was accidentally shot while hunting in Oklahoma some 10 years ago.
Mrs. Nellis had been in poor health for a number of years. Last Friday she suffered from a hemorrhage of the lungs and it is thought that possibly Sunday she suffered from an internal hemorrhage. When found by her brother she had been dead but a short time.
Mrs. Nellis was born in Kansas ___ years ago May 30 and came to Kellogg when but a small girl. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Birchard, early settlers of Kellogg. Shortly after her marriage, she and her husband, George Nellis, moved to Pawnee, Oklahoma, where Mr. Nellis was an instructor in the Indian schools and where Mrs. Nellis served as matron. After Mr. Nellis’ death she brought the body back to Kellogg and made her home here. Since coming to Kellogg her brother, Thomas and son Ned have made their home with her. She had been a member of the Methodist church in Kellogg for 42 years.
She leaves beside her brother Thomas two other brothers, R. C. Birchard, of Kellogg, Sam Birchard, of near Kellogg, and one sister, Mrs. L. E. Blosser, of Kellogg, and two sons, Wayne, of Panama and Earl of California. Neither of the sons will be present for the funeral services for it would take Wayne at least 10 days to arrive here and the other son’s address is not definitely known.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 o’clock from the home. Burial will be made in the Kellogg cemetery.
