Carroll G. Opperud, 87, of Newton, died Dec. 25, 2014, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. There will be a private family graveside service.

Carroll, the son of Pete Edward and Angeline Christine (Olson) Opperud, was born July 10, 1927, in Wisconsin. Carroll grew up on the farm as an only child. He graduated from Noris Springs High School and was a radar technician in the military. He then attended Dery Institute for televisions.

Carroll was united in marriage with Shirley Loraine Chambers Dec. 27, 1949. Following Shirley’s death in April of 1973, Carroll was married to Kay Albee Dec. 28, 1975. He owned Carroll’s TV in Newton for many years and then worked and retired from the Maytag Company. Carroll was also a carpenter and built homes for his family in Charles City and in Newton.

Those left to honor Carroll’s memory are his three daughters, Angie Snook and family, Carolyn Holmes and family, and Connie Rider and family, all of Newton; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and good neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Shirley in 1973; and his second wife, Kay in 2004.

Carroll will be missed and will always be remembered as a great dad. His lasts thoughts that he wrote down on paper were “Thank All.” ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 29 Dec 2014.
