Life Story of Erle Tool--Funeral services for J. Erle Tool, 78, a lifelong resident of Monroe, were held Thursday, Jan. 2 in Monroe United Presbyterian church. The Rev. John Porter, minister of the church, assisted by the Rev. James V. Poulsen, minister of the Monroe United Methodist church, conducted the services. Mrs. Devayne Honald was the organist.
Pallbearers were Don Tool, Marvin Morris, Bill Sellers, Nick Sellers, Al Hansen and Dale Ebert. Mrs. Ben Van Wyk and Mrs. Ralph Van Wyk were in charge of flowers. Ben Van Wyk and Ralph Van Wyk were the ushers.
Survivors are his wife, Nellie, a son Max of Monroe; and two daughters, Mrs. Merlin (Mary) Morris of Kellogg and Mrs. Chester (Margaret) Dawson of Monroe; two step-daughters, Mrs. Duane (Wilma) Sellers and Marilyn Mullins; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Lea, and an infant grandson.
Mr. Tool was an active member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of the IOOF and a member of Company F of the Iowa State Guard.
Mr. Tool was born July 16, 1890 near Monroe, and was a 1908 graduate of Monroe High School. He was married to Ora North June 10, 1910. He later married Nellie Quick Mullins July 29, 1945.
Mr. Tool, who taught in rural school districts for a number of years, was employed for more than 30 years in Jasper County construction work. Following his retirement he remained active in construction and custodial work.
