GERMANTOWN HILLS - Mary Lois (Vogel) Damm, 82, of Germantown Hills passed away at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, leaving behind her loving spouse of 45 years, Robert E. Damm.

Mary was born on Sept. 27, 1932, to Aloys and Julia (Linneman) Vogel in Benson, Ill. There were no children, except the love of her husband, Bob. She is also survived by her brothers, Fred (late wife, Patricia) Vogel of Vancouver, Wash., Gilbert (late wife, Ruth) Vogel of El Paso, Texas, Alvin (wife, Cathy) Vogel of Round Rock, Texas, Loren (wife, Ann) Vogel of Montgomery, Texas, and Frank (wife, Lois) Vogel of Newton, Iowa; and 22 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Howard Vogel; a niece; a nephew; a great-nephew; and three sisters-in-law.

Mary graduated from El Paso High School, then worked in Bloomington, before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she trained to be a radiology technician. She continued with her career in Los Angeles, Calif., and Dallas, Texas, where she was promoted to chief technologist and served as treasurer for the Texas chapter of the Society of X-Ray Technicians. Mary married "Bob" in 1970 and moved back to Illinois and continued her career in radiology. She retired from Methodist Medical Center in Peoria in 1986, as a specialty technologist in CT and ultrasound.

In retirement, Mary and Bob had the joy of traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and many other places in the USA. Mary became an award-winning watercolor and oil artist. She authored a self-published novel, "The Distance of Time." Her creativity also led to the development and publication of a word game called "Definition/Wordplay," which was a regular feature in the local paper.Mary struggled with cancer the past year, but felt it was a blessing to be taken into the arms of the Lord and Savior, into whom she put all her trust and devotion.Our thanks for the great care and support goes out to the staffs of Illinois Cancer Care Clinic, Snyder Village and OSF Hospice and to the Franciscan Friars.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 504 Fulton St., Peoria. Father Luis Aponte will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 22, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, 2416 N. North St., Peoria, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at noon Tuesday in Calvary Cemetery in Henry, Ill.
