Delbert Wayne Bell, age 89 of Prairie City, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at Bright Kavanagh Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Chester and Myrtle (Jackson) Bell, Wayne was born on November 1, 1925, in Des Moines. He attended Lincoln High School until the age of 17 when he joined the Navy. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his military career, he went back and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944. On August 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to June Marie Jennings in Omaha, Nebraska. Wayne worked as an accountant at Lenox Industries and a Truck Driver at Pulley Freight Lines. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge in Des Moines and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Wayne loved camping, boating, and reading about history. He was proud to be an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, June; children, Randy Bell, Patti (Todd) Isley and Tammi (Todd) Swanson; six grandchildren, Chris, Stephany, Gabe, Lucas, Nick, and Spencer; a great grandson, Logan; and his best furry friend JC.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents; three children, Craig, Mark and Chris; and a sister, Nadine Bell. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 1 Dec 2014.
