Darlene May Conner, 87, of Baxter died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton. A funeral service was held Monday at the Baxter Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter. Memorials in Darlene’s name may be directed towards the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Darlene was born on May 3, 1926, to Fred and Pearl Trott. She grew up in Waukee with her siblings, Leroy, Betty Jo, Ella May, Dot, Jim, Jerry and Mikeal. When finished with school, Darlene went on to meet her husband, Ralph Conner. Together they had six children, Cheryl, Ralph, Carolyn, Jerry, Mary and Jim. She also has 17 grandchildren, too many great-grandchildren to count, along with several great-great-grandchildren. Darlene and Ralph were married more than 50 years. Darlene did many different things for work including waitressing, babysitting and other odd jobs. Her main job was at Maytag, where she was a machine operator for 13 years. Darlene’s hobbies include crafts of sewing and jewelry making, cooking, bluegrass music, and reading on her Kindle. She has good memories of working in her flower and vegetable gardens and of her favorite vacation with her kids in Denver, Colo.
Left to cherish Darlene’s memory are her six children, Cheryl Monson of Mason City, Ralph (Leona) Conner of California, Carolyn Good of Newton, Jerry (Maria) Conner of Las Vegas, Nev., Mary Miller of Prairie City and James (Linda) Conner of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a couple of great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; her brother, Mikael; and son-in-law, Cliff Miller.
