Dewey A. Fastenau, age 77 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014, at the Hospice Comfort House of Pella.
Dewey’s wishes were to be cremated and he has been buried next to his wife Judy, at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. A celebration of life memorial service was held Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Knoxville. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dewey Fastenau Memorial Fund, designated for the Hospice Comfort House of Pella or for a Pleasantville High School Scholarship. Dewey was born in Villisca, Iowa, on June 13, 1936, the son of Henry and Elvira (Sunderman) Fastenau. Dewey attended the Villisca Public Schools and graduated from Villisca High School. After high school, Dewey attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. During college Dewey was drafted and he served in the United States Army. After his service, Dewey went back to Northwest Missouri State University and graduated with a teaching degree in mathematics. Dewey was united in marriage to Dee Timmerman. After several years of marriage they went their separate ways prior to Dee’s passing. Later Dewey married Judy Kingery. Dewey and Judy shared many years together before her passing. Dewey was a Pleasantville High School math teacher for 33 years. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a lifelong avid golfer.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Schlichtig and husband Steve of St. Louis, Mo; step-daughter Lori Storm and husband Lloyd of Monroe; two step-sons, Kavin Kingery and wife Jodie of Monroe and Kenny Kingery of Cheyenne, WY; and six grandchildren, Brandon Schlichtig, Katie Schlichtig, Shawnee Storm, Colt Kingery, Dalton Kingery and Kasey Kingery. Dewey is also survived by his brother Dennis Fastenau and wife of Judy of Maumelle, Arkansas, and his two sister-in-laws, Doris “Dot” Fastenau of Asheville, North Carolina and Elaine Fastenau of West Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dee; his wife Judy; and one sister, Lyda; and two brothers, Rev. Emmett and Richard.
