LONA BUTIN SHARP Lona Butin Sharp, 89, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center.

Lona was born in Reasnor, Iowa, the daughter of the late Robert Earl Butin and Lula Trout Butin.

Lona was married for 61 years to Rex Edward Sharp, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Robert Blaine Butin (Kathryn), Boyd Trout Butin, Lois Butin Jarnigan (Clyde), and Jane Butin Woody (Lawrence); nephew Richard Butin and niece Janet Jarnigan Stover.

Lona graduated from Newton High School, Newton, IA in 1943 and was a member of Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society. Following graduation she was an executive secretary at Automatic Washing Machine Company and after her marriage was employed as a secretary in the English department and the Atomic Energy Commission department at Iowa State College, Ames, IA.

Lona was a faithful member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and organized and prepared meals for the blind at Trinity United Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. Lona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother showering love, care and attention on her family and friends.

Lona is survived by four children, Dana Adams (William) of Wilmington, Susan Heitshusen (Stuart) of Des Moines IA, Lynn Skipper (Michael) of Lewisville NC, and William Sharp (Peggy) of Yakima WA; six grandchildren, Christopher Adams (Marina), Elizabeth Kurkowski (Kiel), Jill Adams, Laura Van Hoesen, Brittany Skipper, and Zachary Skipper; one great grandson, Killian Adams; and 5 nieces and 5 nephews.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 31, at 11:00 am at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends at Andrews at 10:00 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington, NC.

The family is deeply grateful for the many years of loving care and support provided by the staff of the Commons at Brightmore and to Dr. Michelle Clancy, Sharma Parker, Sabrina King, Rene Mansfield and Chaplin Sweetie Francis of Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
