Maxine Iske, 88, of Grinnell, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2014, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.A family graveside service and burial has been scheduled for Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. A celebration of life reception and lunch, open to the public, will be held at the Grinnell Elks Lodge beginning 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell Lady Elks or Gilman American Legion Auxiliary.
Maxine was born July 2, 1926, in Grinnell, the daughter of William and Gladys Fowler Esler. She was raised in the Grinnell and Newburg area and was a graduate of Newburg High School. On Nov. 22, 1945, she was united in marriage with Kenneth Iske in Newburg. The couple farmed together near Newburg for many years. She moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 2007. She was a member of the Gilman American Legion Auxiliary and the Grinnell Lady Elks. Maxine loved her life on the farm where she was very active in many farm duties. She was very content raising her family, taking care of her home and helping her husband run a successful farm operation. She enjoyed playing on several bowling and golf league teams and was very competitive. She enjoyed gambling, horse racing and going to Meskwaki.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Sandy (Clifford) Piatt, of Hartford, and Lori (Ryan Cronbaugh) DeVilder, of Brooklyn; three great-grandchildren, Josh Schroyer, of Indianola, Maci Piatt, of Ames and Damon Piatt, of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five daughters Linda Simpson, Diane and Debbie Iske and two in infancy, Marilyn Jean and Luanne Faye Iske; one sister, Mary Davie; and one grandson, Danny DeVilder. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Oct 2014.
