Laurence M. Stravers, age 90 of Prairie City, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at Uptown Restaurant on the north side of the square in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice in Laurence's name and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Edward and Joy (Boatwright) Stravers, Laurence was born on December 10, 1923 at his family home in Grimes. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1941.

On October 14, 1943, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Steenhoek.

Laurence farmed in the Prairie City and Vandalia area all of his life before retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he and Betty moved in to Prairie City.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty; two sons, Gene (Donna) Stravers of Prairie City and David (Connie) Stravers of Des Moines; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tony (Shelley), Jason (Tanya), Justin (Lori), Nicholas, Erica (R J); 14 great grandchildren and two sisters, Betty Howse of Mississippi and Beverly Elrod of Prairie City.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers-in-law, Tom Howse and Oliver Elrod. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa Oct 2014.
