David L. Taylor, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa and formerly of Cedar Rapids died on Saturday morning, May 3, 2014 at his home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein with Rev. Connie Markle officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
Military Service: 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
A Memorial Fund has been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Palmer Hospice.

David Lee Taylor was born on March 10, 1936 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of James Willard & Mary Maxine (Hasty) Taylor. He graduated from Agency High School in Agency, Iowa. Dave served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was a semi driver for 42 years and also an instructor at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Dave was united in marriage to Mary Ann Nicholson on May 13, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein, Iowa. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, trustee, church handyman and was the honorary sheriff for the Splash Program. Dave enjoyed fishing and camping and he loved to spend time with his puppies, Snuggles and Capi. Dave will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Dave is survived by his Wife: Mary Taylor of Oelwein; Son: Eric (Amy) Taylor of Cedar Rapids; 2 Daughters: LeJean (Michael) Pope of Cedar Rapids & Angie (Tracy) Munson of Cedar Rapids; 11 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Sheryl Tierney of Cedar Rapids; Brother: Jimmy Taylor of Newton, Alabama and many Nieces & Nephews.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, sister: Judy and a great grandson: Ethan. ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Des Moines, Iowa May 2014.
