MINGO – Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Bailey aged 91 years, was held at the Mingo M. E. church on Thursday, May 19. The Rev. Bloom of the Zion church conducted the services.
A quartette consisting of Mrs. Frey, Mrs. Eubank, Eldon Geisler and Floyd Hulse sang “No Disappointment in Heaven,” “Asleep in Jesus Arms,” and “Rock of Ages” with Mrs. Carrie Hays at the piano. Interment was made at Sams cemetery.
Lucy Jane Dempsey Bailey was born near Legionier, Ind., April 24, 1847 and died May 17, 1938 at the age of 91 year and 25 days. In May of 1865, she moved with her parents to Iowa and settled near Mingo.
On Dec. 6, 1866, she was united in marriage to James Edwin Bailey and to this union 12 children were born, 9 of whom survive her. They are George Bailey of Colfax, Mrs. Lucy Chaffin, of Minneapolis, Minn., Marion Bailey of Valeria, Mrs. Myra Smay of Osceola, Mo., Jesse Bailey of Mitchellville, Mrs. Mary Akins of Colfax, Elzaida Bailey of Mingo, Mrs. Hattie Rambo of Maxwell, and Miss Laura Bailey of Mingo.
Three children, William, Sarah and Catherine preceded her in death. Her husband also preceded her in death on May 6, 1927. Besides her nine children, she leaves 34 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
She united with the Zion Evangelical church in 1897 and retained her membership there until the time of her death.
