NEWTON - Funeral services for Stephanie Ann Rottering, 15, who died Friday evening, June 11, 1982, following an accident, were held today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father William Kaska and Father Augustin Rottering, OSB, conducted services. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Wake services, conducted by Deacon Frank Martinez, were held Sunday evening at the Wallace Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions to a fund in Miss Rottering’s name will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Quintin Rottering; a sister, Lisa of Newton; and her grandparents, Herman, and Martha Rottering of Cunningham, Kan., and Elizabeth Svoboda of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Miro Svoboda.

Miss Rottering, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, had completed the ninth grade at Central Junior High School, where she was active in basketball, chorus and Pep Club.

The daughter of Quintin and Mary Ann Svoboda Rottering, she was born Dec. 16, 1966 in Manhattan, Kan.

Newton girl dies in weekend accident.

NEWTON - Fifteen-year-old Stephanie Rottering, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quintin Rottering of 330N. 8th Ave E. was killed Friday evening and four others were injured when the 1969 Jeep she was driving struck a parked car on West Fourth Street South.

Taken to Skiff Memorial Hospital were: Bernice Cobbs, age 14 of 1404 N. 4th Ave. W., Regina Herrington, age 15 of 118 N. 6th Ave. E., Cheryl Gauch, age 150 of 708 W. 5th St. S., and Tammy Pickett, age 15 of 1120 N. 4th Ave. W. Cobbs, Gauch and Pickett were treated and released.

Police said Rottering was traveling at high rate of speed around 9:08 p.m., when she attempted to turn south from South Fifth Avenue West onto West Fourth Street. The Jeep swerved across the street and struck a parked Car owned Rick Squire.

The driver's side of the Jeep struck the driver's side of the 1969 passenger car causing $500 damage to the car while sustaining $500 damage police reported.

The last traffic fatality in the city limits occurred July 11, 1980 when Craig Harding was killed on North 19th Avenue East in a motorcycle-truck accident.
