Margaret “Maggie” Hayden, 65, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Maggie was born on August 30, 1943 to George and Leona Lauderdale in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

After graduating from Elkhorn High School in 1961, Maggie attended US Stout and received her Bachelor’s Degree in home economics. She later attended Iowa State University to complete her Master’s Degree.

Maggie married Bruce Hayden on April 22, 1972. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Newton and was well known for her work with the Mitchellville Historical Society. Maggie was the librarian for the Mitchellville Public Library until her retirement and was honored for her volunteer work at Mitchellville Elementary School.

Maggie is survived by her loving husband, Bruce of Mitchellville; daughter, Bethany (John) Davidson of Urbandale; grandson, Oliver; parents, George and Leona Lauderdale of Elkhorn, WI; sisters, Mary (Roger) Howard, Jane (Kevin) Schaaf; brothers, Dick (Sharon) Lauderdale, Gene (Patty) Lauderdale; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her nephew, Jeff Howard.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s Near highland memory gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. A visitation with family present will be from 3 to6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
