Charlene Winifred Moye Adams died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Mill Pond in Ankeny, Iowa.

She was born on June 5, 1925, in Greenville, North Carolina. She and her twin brother were the fourth and fifth children born to Myrtle Leona (Nobles) Moye and Macon Jasper Moye.

Charlene grew up in Greenville and attended schools there, graduating from Greenville High School and attending two years of college at East Carolina Teacher’s College.

In 1946, she married Arthur Lloyd Adams, Sr. of Kellogg, Iowa. They made their home in Iowa, North Carolina, Colorado, and again in Iowa over the next 36 years. Born to this union were two children, Arthur Lloyd, Jr. and Rebecca Elizabeth.

Charlene worked a variety of jobs including nursing homes as a Care Giver and greeter at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa and Ankeny Funeral Home in Ankeny. Her ability to comfort and care for people was one of her greatest gifts.

Visitation will be held at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street in Ankeny, on Monday, October 31, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a celebration of life service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial of her cremains will be at a later date in Loveland, Colorado.

Mrs. Adams is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rebecca Russell of Polk City; son-in-law, James Russell; grandchildren, Mary (Steven) Jacobsen of Polk City, Jennifer (Doug) Elrod of Bondurant, Dan (Tiffani) Lincoln of Leander, Texas, Joanna (Henry Rice) Stanfill of Norwalk; step-grandchildren, Vaughnda (Richard) Ritchie of Kansas City, Missouri, Chad (Shannon Harden) Russell of Polk City, and Corey Russell of Ankeny; nine great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son; her husband; her brothers, Jack and Charles; and her sisters, Florence Norman and Rebecca Pate Williams all of North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Iowa Health Hospice in loving memory of Charlene.
