Carla Jo Brake, 45, of Newton passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Feb. 11, 2013.
There will be a time to celebrate her life from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 16 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Carla was born to Bernard "Sam" and Katherine Collins on June 26, 1967 in Newton, Iowa. She attended Newton High School, and then continued on to receive her CNA certificate. She loved her job as a CNA sharing her talent with many places around town, particularly enjoying her time at Baxter Health Care. Carla loved to garden, and then taking the fruits of her labor into the kitchen. Something was always being made in Carla's kitchen. She was an avid reader, but also enjoyed long talks with her friends and family.
Carla leaves behind a loving husband Jim Brake of Newton. She also leaves four children; James (Bethany) Anderson of Lexington, KY, Cody (Emily) Anderson of Bismarck, ND, Justin Wilson of Newton, and Savannah Greenleaf of Newton. Those also left to honor her memory are her many brothers and sisters: Marlene Trease of Newton, Nancy Collins of Ishpeming, MI, Terry (Karla Mackerman) Collins of Newton, Randy Collins of Newton, Jay (Dorothy) Collins of Omaha, NE, Gina (Brad) Adams of Newton, and Tillena (James) Thompson of Grinnell. Carla also leaves three grandsons, including Kayden Thompson, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Damon Howell; her sister, LaDonna Thompson; and her infant sister, Kathleen Collins.
