Margaret L. Smith, 82, of Colfax passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Park Centre in Newton.

Private graveside funeral services will be held at the Colfax Cemetery. Per Margaret’s request, there will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Isaiah and Ada Myra (Miller) Hunter, Margaret was born on July 12, 1931, in Colfax. On Aug. 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to Norman Edward Smith in Colfax.

Margaret worked at the Monroe Table for several years. She also worked in the kitchen at Bob & Frankie’s in Mitchellville. Margaret loved animals especially her cats and pet duck.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Glenna (Jim) Penny of Newton and Christopher Smith of Colfax; three grandchildren, Justin Jenkins, Christopher Smith and Laci Smith; three great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Hunter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Norman in 1999, and three brothers, Wilbur “Web” Hunter, Donald Hunter and Darrold “Yea” Hunter. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
