Obituary
Wallace "Wally" Nielsen, Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014. He was born in Ceylon, Minn. On May 19, 1920 to Frederick and Anna Nielsen. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII from May 1945 - April 1946. Wally began working for the Maytag Corporation in 1946 at their company headquarters in Newton, Iowa, later moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1950 to work for the Richard Company, a major southeast distributor for Maytag and continued there until 1981. He then retired from The Richard Company and moved to Fairhope, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 35 years, Shirley Dowden Nielsen. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara Nielsen, his sister, Bernice Rowe, daughter, Sheri Clark (Rolly), son Jerry Nielsen (Ann); Sara Nielsen's children Dan Ashby (Maria) and Cris Solberg (Steve); Grandchildren, Kellie, Craig, Carrie and Cindy (Sheri and Rolly's children) Christa, Michael (Jerry and Ann's children), Jacqueline, Sadie and John (Cris and Steve's children), ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He will be remembered by his many friends and family in Fairhope and Point Clear and the wonderful memories of playing golf at Lakewood and traveling throughout the world. He loved Tennessee football and basketball.
Wally was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Lakewood Golf Club, Elks and other civic organizations. Memorial gifts may be sent in his name to Trinity Presbyterian Church at 545 South Mobile Street, Fairhope, AL 36532.
