Obituary

GUY ALONZO JONES, 87, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014, in Takoma Park, Md. He had been a resident of the District of Columbia since the early 1950's. He was born and raised in Fort Wayne; after which, he served in the United States Navy from 1946 until honorably discharged. He attended University at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa, West Virginia State, and graduated in the early 1950's from Howard University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

He worked for many years in sales, and he also excelled as a civic service administrator. At the time of his retirement, he was the Executive Director of the Northwest Settlement House where he had worked for several years. His biography is listed in History of Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana: 1700 - 2005 Vol.2, where it states that: "His volunteer and community work has included Chairmanship of Neighborhood Planning Council Number 7, Chairmanship of Youth Committee of Lamond Riggs Civic Association, volunteer work with local Boy Scouts, Director of Project Men, Deputy Foreman of a grand jury in Washington, D.C., and National President of Frontiers International Inc."

He is survived by a grandson, Guy James Jones of Newton, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Shawntecia Jones of Houston, Texas; sister, Darlene Jones-Hatcher; two nieces, Lititia C. Hatcher-Roque and Kimberly S. Hatcher; and a nephew, Kamari O. Mbwelera, all of Fort Wayne; two great nieces, Charita L. Roque of Cleveland, Ohio and Shayla D. Hatcher of Fort Wayne; a great nephew, Jabari B. Mbwelera of Chicago, Ill.; and by a host of other relatives and friends both in the District of Columbia and in Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey L. Reese-Jones; and son, Guy Lawrence Jones.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at New Zion Tabernacle Church, 1835 Spring St., Fort Wayne (IN 46808). Make donations to a charity of donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to PO Box 29567, Washington, D.C. 20017.
