TAMA – James Frank Mitchell, 74, of Tama died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the Mayflower South Village in Grinnell under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today, Sept.20, at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Friends may call at the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service. Jim’s remains were donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home of Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News.

(March 16, 1937 - September 17, 2011)TAMA-James Frank Mitchell, 74, of Tama, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Mayflower South Village in Grinnell under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice, due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia. Jim’s remains were donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
Jim was born on March 16, 1937, in Humeston, Iowa, the son of Frank and Faye (Yates) Mitchell. He graduated from Monroe High School. On December 27, 1985 he was united in marriage to Nancy Strellner Richards at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, IA.
He was a District Sales Manager for Moorman Feed Company for over 30 years and then was an Insurance Agency Manager at Citizens Savings Bank in Gilman. Jim was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, where he served on several committees. He was also a member of the Tama-Toledo Country Club and Masonic Lodge. Jim enjoyed golf, movies, playing cards, auctions, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, drinking coffee, visiting with family and friends and attending grandchildren’s activities.
Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife Nancy of Tama; his children Linda Bacon of Newton, Pam (Kevin) Jungst of Iron River, WI, Brad (Linda Osborn) Mitchell of Newton, Arlo (Rhonda) Richards of Waterloo, Allan Richards of Tama, Bruce Richards of Tama, Shelly (Dallas) Wacha of Sugarland, TX and Brian (Jill) Richards of Alpharetta, GA; fourteen grandchildren, Adam and Brent Hanner, Julianne, Erin, and Troy Bacon, Ben, Alex and Elizabeth Wacha, Jennifer (Darrin) O’Brien, Tara Richards, Austin, Sydney and Madison Richards and Logan Richards; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Chloe, Emma and Aidan O’Brien; one sister Mary Mitchell Brown of Phoenix, AZ; and a nephew Kevin Rastofer. A memorial fund has been established. ~ The Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home of Tama-Toledo Tues 20 Sept 2011.
