Gladys Irene Dewey Reese

Gladys Irene Dewey Reese, 83, of 1711 S. 4th Ave. E., died of complications following a stroke, Thursday, Dec. 30, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Stephen Pannkuk, pastor, officiating. Cremation will follow services and burial of the cremains will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma, Wash.

Friends may call at Reese Funeral Home in Newton afternoon today where family will be present from 7:54 p.m. Memorials to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church building fund in Newton or in Mrs. Reese's name will be accepted.

The daughter of Beverly Vernon and Sadie Cora Eide Sanders, she was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Bowman, S. D. She graduated from high school in Aberdeen, S. D. She married Leslie T. Dewey Aug. 29, 1937, and Albert Lea, Minn. She later married Chuck Reese in May of 1975, in Newton.

A former resident of Aberdeen, S. D, Albert Lea, Minn., Rock Island and Carbon Cliff, Ill and Tacoma, Wash. She moved to Marshalltown in 1975 and Newton in 1981. Mrs. Reese worked as a homemaker and was employed as an office manager by the Olympic Candy Company in Tacoma, Wash. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton and the Newton YMCA, was a prize-winning painter, supported the Newton Community Theater and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard “Lee” Lininger of Yelm, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Nita Sanders of Payson Ariz.; sister-in-law, Isabelle Winters of Newton; a granddaughter; a great- granddaughter; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, for brothers and a sister. The Newton (IA) Daily News Monday, 3 January 2000.
