Ruby V. “Jane” Reed, 81, of 514 E. 20th St. S., formerly of Grinnell, died of pulmonary fibrosis, Sunday, Jan 2, at her home.

Private family graveside services will be held with Pastor Todd Follette, pastor of First Friends Church in Grinnell, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

There will be no visitation. The Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials to the American Lung Association will be accepted.

The daughter of Frank H. Lincoln and Nora B. Martin, she was born May 9, 1918, in Washington Township in Poweshiek County. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School. She married William E. Reed Sept. 8, 1936, in Newton.

A longtime resident of Grinnell, Mrs. Reed moved to Newton in 1999 to live with her daughter. She was retired from the State of Iowa after 25 years of employment as a clerk for the liquor control commission. Mrs. Reed attended First Friends Church and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Grinnell.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters –in-law, Jerry L. and Rita of Olathe, Kan., Dennis E. of Newton and Gordon G. and Bonnie of Huron, S. D. ; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet K. and Donald Strand of Iowa City and Linda M. Rice of Newton; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, a daughter, two sisters and three grandchildren. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Jan 2000.
