Robert D. Burns, 75, of Newton died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home in Newton.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 17 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Skiff Hospice, Community Heights Alliance Church, Elks Lodge No. 1270 or to the UnityPoint Hospice may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Burns Family on the envelope.

Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his wife, Linda of Newton; children, Ray Lynn (Nick) Holman of Southaven, Miss., Bruce (Debbie) Burns of Newton, Krisann Van Hoosen of Fishers, Ind., and Michelle Tharp of Newton; his seven grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Emerald, Jason, Justin, Matt and Joe; two great-grandchildren, Drake and Harper; his siblings, Barb Traster of Indianola, Linda (Merve) Bommel of Waukee and Bill Burns of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Chuck Traster. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his wife, Linda of Newton; children, Ray Lynn (Nick) Holman of Southaven, Mississippi, Bruce (Debbie) Burns of Newton, Krisann Van Hoosen of Fishers, Indiana and Michelle Tharp of Newton; his seven grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Emerald, Jason, Justin, Matt and Joe; two great-grandchildren, Drake and Harper; his siblings, Barb Traster of Indianola, Linda (Merve) Bommel of Waukee and Bill Burns of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Chuck Traster.

Bob was a graduate of Truro High School

Bob worked as a manager for Circle “B” Cashway Lumber yards for 41 years, retiring in 2001.

Bob was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church, Elks Lodge No. 1270 in Newton and the Moose Lodge No. 923 in Newton. Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, fishing and watching all the sports of Iowa and Iowa State.
