Mary Jane Shuey was born in Carlton County, Maryland, January 31, 1850 and passed away at her home in Mingo, Iowa, December 19, 1930, age 80 years, 10 months and 19 days.

She was united in the sacred bonds of Holy Matrimony to Jacob H. Shuey while living in Maryland and to this union were born two children, Jacob H. Jr., who died in infancy, and James Edward, who resides near Mingo.

In 1871 the family moved to Illinois where Mr. Shuey passed away, June 1, 1893. In 1900 Mrs. Shuey moved to Collins, Iowa, and later to Mingo, where she has resided for about fifteen years.

Left to mourn her loss is one son, James Edward, three grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

She joined church when quite young and has been a constant member of the Mingo M. E. Church and attended when her health permitted.

The whole community will miss her but especially her closest neighbors, who ran in so often to see what grandma Shuey needed.

The funeral services were held at the Mingo M. E. Church by Rev. H. D. Simmons, Sunday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m.

The body was taken to Sycamore, Illinois, where the body was laid beside that of her husband. A mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. A. W. Frey, Miss Gladyce Inglis, Floyd Hulse, and B. H. Sandy, accompanied bon the piano by Mrs. Carrie Hays, sand “Abide with Me,” “Going Down the Valley”, and “Rock of Ages.”

The pall bearers were: Roy Westfall, Willis Lint, Clate Lint, H. E Pitcock, Bert Maxwell, and Harry Cordray.

Servants of God, well done,
Thy Gracious warfare past.
The battle fought, the victory won,
And thou are Crowned at last.

Cared of Thanks

We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for the kindness shown us in the sickness and death of our beloved mother, also for the beautiful flowers. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
