Helen, the first born child of Everett and Louise (Williby) Kumm was born on Jan. 25, 1923. On July 5, 1963, she was united in marriage with Marvin C. Nuese at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton.

Helen attended Newton High School and worked at the Vernon Company for many years. When Helen and Marvin retired they traveled to Florida and Arizona for many winters in an RV and spent summers back in Iowa. They later moved to Leesburg, Fla., in a retirement park for several years before moving back to Newton.

Helen enjoyed doing plastic canvas, working puzzles, reading, and keeping meticulous records of many of her life events. She organized many family photo albums and left a great legacy for her family. She was an “I can do it” kind of lady.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Everett (Mary Caren) Gregory of Mitchellville, Charlotte Cunningham-Boot of Monroe and Sandra (Fred) Smith of Peoria, Ill.; nine grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her two sisters-in-law, Kim and Sally of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin in 2011; son Ronnie Gregory; and three brothers, Harold, Don and Marvin “Babe.” ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
