Evelyn B. Lohrer, 77, of 404 W. 8th St. N., a resident of Newton for approximately two years, died Saturday afternoon, June 1, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Wallace Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Arthur E. Schleif, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors are her family, Doris Brooks of Newton, Beulah Strovers of Mayflower Home in Grinnell, Paul J. Strovers of Grinnell and C. Edward Strovers of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Lohrer, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, had taught schools in the Baxter area and worked for the telephone company in Grinnell and Washington, Iowa, and worked in the purchasing department of the University of Iowa for 17 years before her retirement.

The daughter of Aart and Ada Bailey Van Zanty, she was born April 7, 1908 in Jasper County, was graduated from Lynnville High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News. Mon 8 June 1985
