Services Sunday for H. E. Murphy

Funeral services for Homer Ellsworth Murphy, 82, former Murphy area resident, will be held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Johnson – Murdoch Funeral Home in Newton. Mr. Murphy died May 6 in Milestone, Regina, Canada, and his body was returned for burial. Rev. B. H. Finch of Killduff will officiate at the rights. Burial will be at the Slagle Cemetery southeast of Newton. Mrs. Maurice Rogers will be soloist and Mrs. R. D. Jackson will be the organist. Pallbearers will be Loren Murphy, Oakley Brodersen, Hugh Murphy, Maurice Woods, Myron Murphy and Orin Maine.

Mr. Murphy was the son of J. W. and Ann Eliza Murphy. He was born Aug. 29, 1866, near Murphy, and received his education in the Jasper County schools. He farmed all his life in Jasper County until moving to Canada about 30 years ago.

A number of nieces, nephews and cousins in Jasper County survive its him. ~ The Newton Daily News, Sat 14 May 1949.
