Betty J. Woodburn

Hood River, Ore. - After 84 years of a vibrant life, Betty Jean Woodburn passed away August 11, 2007, at her home in Hood River, Ore. Betty was born July 7, 1923 in Spencer, Neb., to Henry and Tillie Paulson. The family moved to Oregon during the depression. Betty attended college at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Betty married Bob Woodburn in 1947, and had three sons, Steve, Bill and Terry. In 1958, the Woodburn's moved to Hood River, where Bob began a long career in the telephone industry and that he worked at Hood River Hospital, while raising a family. A series of promotions for Bob took them to Newton, in 1965, Orland Park, Kan., In 1970, to Loraine, Ohio, in 1974, and finally to Fort Dodge, in 1978. Betty was a key part of her has been success, and she accumulated lifelong friends along the way. After retirement in 1981, the Woodburn Smith back to Oregon, where Bob passed away in 1993. Betty recently returned to Hood River, nearly 50 years after her first moved to the Columbia River Gorge city. So

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Hank and Tillie, brother Bud, and sister LaVerne. She is survived by brother John and wife Lorraine of Burkbennett, Texas; sons Steve of Puyallup, Wash.; Bill and wife Melody of Hood River, Ore.; and Terry and wife Laurie of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, in the Summer Place Recreation Center, 2020 NE 150th Ave., In Portland, Ore.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to hospice of the Gorge, PO Box 36, Hood River, OR. 97031. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
