Catherine Heemsbergen, age 93 of Prairie City, died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Parkridge Nursing and Rehab in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Prairie City, with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the Catherine Heemsbergen Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Griffeon) Berkenbosch, Catherine was born on July 21, 1010, in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School and received her teaching certificate from William Penn College. Catherine taught country school until her marriage to Richard Heemsbergen in 1944. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Prairie City and enjoyed cooking and entertaining.

Those left to honor her memory include her two sons, David Lee Heemsbergen and his wife Jan of St. Paul, Minnesota and Bob Heemsbergen and his wife Laura of Runnells and a grandson Matthew Heemsbergen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1980, an infant son James Eldon, and two sisters, Verda and Pauline Berkenbosch. ~ Newspaper unnamed but Possibly The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
