Alvertus Morris Dies on Tuesday; Rites Saturday

KELLOGG--Alvertus C. Morris, 78, of Rt. 2, Kellogg, a lifelong resident of the Rushville neighborhood near Kellogg, died Tuesday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Toland-Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Carl Klein, pastor of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Survivors are his wife, Lela; a son, Jerry of Kellogg; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lois Ann) Loomis of Davis, Calif.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, William S. Morris of Rt. 2, Kellogg; and two sisters, Mrs. Harrison (Frost) Brooke of Newton and Mrs. Florence Van Epps of Dayton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Loomis.

Mr. Morris was a 50-year member of the Kellogg Masonic Lodge and a member of the Newton Elks Lodge and Jasper County Farm Bureau.

The son of Schuyler C. and Nancy McKinney Morris, he was born Sept. 17, 1899 in the Rushville neighborhood.

He was married to Lela Reichelt June 9, 1927 at Newton. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Wednesday, January 18, 1978
