Fred Garrison Dies Tuesday; Services Friday
COLFAX-Fred Robert Garrison, 76, of Rt. 1, Colfax, died Tuesday afternoon enroute to the hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Colfax Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Murray Thompson, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Robert Jones, pastor of the Colfax Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home in Newton after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions to the Colfax Presbyterian Church or the Heart Fund will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Arlene; two daughters, Mrs. George (Lorena) Deakins of Colfax and Mrs. Delwin (Lucille) Cross of Killduff; a son, Donald Emmack of Des Moines; a step-son, Wesley Larson of Mason City; two step-daughters, Sherry Kyle of Des Moines and Penny Van Baale of Emporia, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. William (Anna) Vansice of Baxter, Mrs. Carl (Faye) Bowers of Newton and Mrs. Len (Neva) Campbell of El Paso, Tex.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Andeway of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, the former Ruth Kloppinborg; his second wife, the former Maggie Iske; a brother, three sisters; a daughter, Mrs. James O. (Lela) Leonard; and a grandson, Myron Dean Leonard.
Mr. Garrison, a poultry man and farmer, was a member of the Colfax Presbyterian Church and the Sandhill Grange.
The son of James and Nora Harvey Garrison, he was born Oct. 30, 1901 in rural Baxter and was educated in Baxter schools.
He was married to Arlene Laron May 2, 1974 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Wednesday, January 11, 1978
