Donald “Don” R. Russell, 65, of Baxter died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Baxter Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Memorials to the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation or the Baxter Educational Foundation may be left at the funeral home.

Don, the son of Edwin and Doris (Horn) Russell, was born on April 7, 1948 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from Baxter High School and from DMACC with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. Don worked as a production worker for the Maytag Company, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the Good Samaritans. He was an avid camper and loved the Iowa State Fair, where he volunteered at for almost 20 years. Those left to honor Don’s memory are his brother, Everett (Linda) Russell of Newton; sister, Esther (Daryl) Grife of Newton; brother-in-law, Bob Braksma of Grinnell; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Millie Conger, Ellen Braksma, and Rosemary Jane Russell.
