Cheryl “Cherri” Wernett Gram, 65, of Newton died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service and again after the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials to the First Christian Church or the Taylor Hospice House may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Cherri, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Wilbur) Wernett, was born on Sept. 19, 1948, in Decorah. She grew up in Cresco. Cherri was united in marriage with Jerry Gram on Jan. 5, 1968, in Mason City. They made their home in Hampton, until moving to Newton in 1987. Cherri was a production worker at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the UAW Local 997, First Christian Church and the Red Hat Society.

Cherri loved to spend time with her grandkids and attend their events and travel with her family and friends. She was a volunteer at many places including her church and Skiff Hospice.

Those left to honor Cherri’s memory are her children, Michelle (Jeff) Brunsen of Urbandale and Troy (Melissa) Gram of Newton; grandchildren, Alex and Hannah Brunsen, Trinity Gram and Skiler Hovenga; her brother, Duane Wernett of Rochester, Minn.; niece Denise Richardson; her cousins; and her dog, Tweetie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry in 2009; brothers, Perry Mailey, Jr., David Wernett and Frank Wernett; and sister Sharon Wernett. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
