October 27, 1926 - September 6, 2013

Betty J. Davenport, 86, of 619 W. Nevada Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away at her home after a very short illness on September 6, 2013 surrounded by her five children and sister Beverly.

Betty was born Betty Jean Mott on October 27, 1926, in Tama, Iowa, to Frank Daniel and Flossie Junetta (June) Jacobs Mott. Betty grew up and attended school in Toledo, Iowa, until 1944 when the family moved to Marshalltown. Betty graduated from Marshalltown Senior High School with the class of 1945. She went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1945 working Marshalltown, IA, Denver, Colorado and Des Moines, Iowa, from 1945 to 1950. From 1950 to 1960 Betty took time off to raise her family. Betty returned to work for the telephone company in 1960 retiring in 1980 when the telephone company became automated no longer using telephone operators. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers and the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown.

Betty married James A. Davenport on January 18, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dad preceded mother in death on January 25, 1985. Also preceding her in death were her two brothers Robert (Bob) Mott, William (Bill) Mott and one grandson-in-law Scott Eubanks (Jennifer). Betty is survived by her children: Frank Davenport of Marshalltown, Leonard of Albion, IA, Jim Jr. (Cheryl) of The Villages, Fla., Carol (Mark) Shufelt of Marshalltown, Lynda (Larry) Atcher of Laurel. Grandchildren: Adam (Lindsay) Davenport, Jennifer Eubanks, Kristi (Nick) Canto, Amy and Abby Atcher. Great-grandchildren: Jenna and Peyton Davenport, Kaylee Eubanks and Frank Noah Canto. One sister Beverly Schultz of Marshalltown as well as four sister in laws: Wilma Mott of Newton, IA, Sharon Mott of Waterloo, IA, Arlene Davenport of Grinnell, IA, and Vi Gamble of Wellington, Fla. Two first cousins: Gail Hauschild of Centerville, IA, Shirely Stein of Toledo, IA, numerous other cousins and several nieces, nephews, Great and Great-Great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 11, 2013 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home 1209 Iowa Avenue West in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be from 6 to 8P.M. on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Tama, IA. A reception will be held after the burial at the First United Methodist Church 202 West Main Street in Marshalltown, IA.
