Richard E. Lepley, 80, of Newton died on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Richard, the son of Clarence and Esther (Edgington) Lepley, was born on May 9, 1933, in Lacona. He great up in Allerton, and graduated from Allerton High School. Richard than attended college in Kirksville, Mo. He then moved to Newton, and began his career at the Maytag Company.

On Nov. 30, 1952, he was united in marriage with Mabel King in Newton. Richard worked for Maytag for 41 years, retiring in 1992. He was also a lifelong farmer. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the UAW Local 997. He enjoyed good conversation with friends and family and was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend.

He is survived by his three sons, Steve (Kay) Lepley of Newton, Wesley (Tressa) Lepley of Newton and Brad Lepley of Newton; four grandchildren, Kelly Johnston, Josh Lepley, Nick (Colleen) Lepley and Rachel Lepley; his nine great-grandchildren, Rion, Alyssa, Kamya, Gavin, Carson, Jessica, Nancy, Miranda and Kelsey; siblings, Bob (Betty) Lepley of Colorado, Marilyn McLain of Florida, Katherine Princing of Ohio and Judy Sparks of Newton; and family friend, Lori Wearmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mabel in 2010; and son Keith Lepley. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
