Rex A. “Pap” Heck, 87, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton and Colfax, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at the Valley View Village in Des Moines.

A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with burial at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Newton.

Memorials in Rex’s name may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home; please add; Attn: Heck Family on the envelope.

Rex worked many years as a production worker for the Maytag Company in Newton.

Survivors include his daughter, Patsy Partelow of Des Moines; his son, Steven A. Heck of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Lucas (Shonna) Partelow of Des Moines, Curtis A. (Tara) Heck of Newton, Amanda (Jordon) Roberts of Newton, Nick Minard of Des Moines, and Kevin (Toni) Minard of Des Moines; eleven great-grandchildren; his brother, Bill (Theda) Heck of Tennessee; his two sisters, Bernice Collins of Tennessee, and Merle Bledsoe of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evelyn in 2011; son-in-law, Jerry Partelow; son, Kenneth Heck; and four brothers, Bob, Howard, Lyle, and Nick “Doc” Heck. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

(Tara) Heck of Newton, Amanda (Jordon) Roberts of Newton, Nick Minard of Des Moines, and Kevin (Toni) Minard of Des Moines; eleven great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Marie, Hayleigh Ann, Shayleigh Danielle, and Xander Dean Partelow; Bentley Alexander Heck, Nathan Minard, Jeffrey Minard, Keyla Minard, Cael Minard, Dominic Minard, and Drayton Carter Roberts; his brother, Bill (Theda) Heck of Tennessee; his two sisters, Bernice Collins of Tennessee, and Merle Bledsoe of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Jerry Partelow; son, Kenneth Heck; and four brothers, Bob, Howard, Lyle, and Nick “Doc” Heck.

Pap served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II.

Rex worked many years as a production worker for the Maytag Company in Newton.

Rex enjoyed singing, camping, and being with his family and friends.
