Norene L. “Rene” Walker, 79, of Newton went to be with her family and friends on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at her home.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorials in Rene’s name may be left at the funeral home or at the church at the time of the service. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home; please add, Attn: Walker Family on the envelope.

Survivors include her children, Scott Walker (Darla Oskam, and her children, Maddy Oskam, and Josh (Ashley) Oskam and their children, Preston, Triston, and Grayson) of Newton, Rhonda (Joe) Carmichael of Newton and Ginger (Jeff) La Kose of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Josh (Stacy) Walker, Josie Verwers, Doug (Jenny) Verwers, Joel Hopkins and Stacey (Cody) Simbro; two step-grandchildren, Brandi Armstrong of Des Moines, and Jeremy (Mindy) Carmichael of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Walker, Brock Simbro and Beau Simbro; five-step great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Armstrong, Jack Armstrong, Reagan Carmichael, Olivia Carmichael and Harrison Carmichael; and her brother, Ron (Beverly) Yockey of Sandwich, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Adams; and nephew, Michael York Adams. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Rene was a graduate of Leeds High School in Sioux City, Iowa with the Class of 1951. She moved to Newton in 1956.

Rene was a homemaker. She had also taught diving and synchronized swimming at the YMCA. She had worked at the Riverview Release Center, and the Newton Correctional Facility. Rene had also worked at Newton Manufacturing, Thorp Credit, and the Jasper County Savings Bank.

Rene enjoyed collecting and selling antique dishes; she also collected dolls. She also enjoyed working on her computer, going to and having garage sales, and her morning coffee time with her neighbors.
