KELLOGG MAN WAS
KILLED BY TRAIN

Joe Miller, who was at the advanced age of almost 90 years, of Kellogg, was killed instantly Wednesday afternoon, when he was struck by a freight train in the Rock Island yards at Kellogg. He leaves many relatives. Mrs. C.R. Moberly, a daughter, and Ed. Miller, a son, of Kellogg, are known to Grinnell people.

The eccentric old man had been making a practice of picking up wood and coal along the railroad tracks, using a wheelbarrow. According to witnesses of the tragedy, Mr. Miller was going home with a wheelbarrow load of wood, and in crossing the track noticed a small piece of oilcloth. He pushed the wheelbarrow across and went back after the cloth. Just as he was returning to the wheelbarrow the fast eastbound freight train struck him, carrying his body almost a hundred yards down the track. His head was severed and his body was almost unrecognizable.
