Bob D. McVay, 84, of Newton died on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, July 22, 2013, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Bob’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home or at the graveside service.

Bob, the son of Glen Alvin and Mildred (French) McVay, was born on May 27, 1929 in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton. Bob was united in marriage with Alberta Moon on June 10, 1949 in Knoxville. Bob retired as a factory worker from the Maytag Company. After retirement, he drove school bus for the Newton Community School District. Bob was a member and past officer of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and also a member of the Moose Lodge and White Shrine. He had enjoyed riding his motorcycle, yard work, gardening, fishing, boating, and most recently reading. Bob was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his daughter, Connie (Dave) Etter of Altoona; sons, Steve (Jeanette) McVay, Gary (Rae) McVay, Rick McVay, and Tim McVay, all of Newton; his six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta in 2011; 2 brothers, Howard and Cecil McVay; and a sister, Marjorie Moon.
