John E. Cones, the son of Edward Cones and Louise Tanner, was born on October 23, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. After receiving his GED he attended college and obtained a degree in mechanics. John served his country in the U.S. Army being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. John and his lifelong companion, Cheryl Chapman, have been together for over 35 years. Together they have lived in many different states, but John always thought of Newton, Iowa as home and they had lived back here for seven years. John enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, collecting knives, and watching wrestling and mechanics shows on television. He was also a devoted family man. Those left to honor John’s memory are his wife, Cheryl Chapman of Newton; four children, Christopher (Jennifer) Cones of Newton, Matthew Cones of Newton, Robin Cones of Newton, and Jason Chapman of Newton and his four grandchildren.
