Born September 27, 1935, in Postville, IA, to Kenneth and Esther Schultz, Donna graduated from Postville High School and Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI). On August 17, 1958, after a whirlwind three month courtship and three month engagement, she married the love of her life, Larry Reed.
Donna taught physical education in Iowa Falls, West Union, and Newton. She worked as cheer coach and lunch monitor for Eldora Schools and served as curriculum coordinator for Eldora Methodist Church and as youth group leader for 21 years, tending to the needs of high school students through activities such as picnics and ski trips. The church altar was always decorated creatively due to her committee's efforts. Donna also was a member of Methodist Women's Circle, Praise Band, Cecilians women's choir, and bridge club.
Donna made the most beautiful cards and sent them to the many people whose lives she touched. She attended stamping classes across the state. She loved to travel with her husband Larry, places like Alaska, Canada and Norway. She followed her grandchildren to every one of their sports and music activities and was known as "grandma" to all of her grandchildren's friends.
Donna is survived by husband Larry Reed; daughter Lynnae Reed Lathrop (Dave); grandchildren Alex Crosser, Katelyn Crosser, Peyton Crosser, Jenner Lathrop and Karch Lathrop; brother John Schultz (Beverly) and sister Barbara Isserstedt (Glenn), as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Amber Reed Crosser.
Memorial contributions will be used to support education at Eldora Elementary School.
Thanks to the many friends who visited and sent cards, letters, and gifts to Donna during her hospital stay. Also, thank you to the wonderful doctors and nurses on third floor Powell at Iowa Methodist and the staff at Mercy Hospice for their help and support. ~ Published in Des Moines Register on May 28, 2013.
