Lewis, Melvin L 81 of Weston, formerly of Newton Iowa, passed away with his family by his side on April 20, 2013.

Mel graduated from the University of Iowa, was stationed in Germany for two years with the US Army, then worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 37 years, where he retired as the Vice President of Marketing in 1993. In Newton, Mel served as President of the YMCA Board, Expansion Chairman for same, President of Skiff Medical Center Board of Trustees, Newton Habitat for Humanity Treasurer, First Lutheran Church Council, and Rotary Foundation.

Mel is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, of 55 years; his children Michelle Duffy Fosenburg (Jeff) of Weston and Melissa Neborak (Michael) of Katonah, New York; and grandchildren Caitlin and Christina Duffy, and Mikey and Margaux Neborak. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 26th at 4pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Weston. Memorial contributions may be made in Mel's name to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 580 Indian Trace, Weston FL 33326. Cremation arrangements by T. M. Melvin L. Lewis, 81, of Weston, Fla., since 1998, formerly of Newton, Iowa, passed away with his family by his side on April 20, 2013.

Mel was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Burlington, Iowa, to parents Edward and Ruth Lewis. Mel graduated from the University of Iowa, was stationed in Germany for two years with the U.S. Army, then joined the Maytag Company in 1956 as a marketing analyst. In 1957, he married Mary Jo Dworzack of Burlington, who became a teacher in Newton. In 1959, his first daughter, Michelle, was born, and in 1962 another daughter, Melissa, was born.

Mel worked for the Maytag Company for 37 years, where he retired as the vice president of marketing in 1993. While in Newton, Mel served as president of the YMCA Board, Expansion Chairman for YMCA, president of Skiff Medical Center Board of Trustees, Newton Habitat for Humanity Treasurer, First Lutheran Church Council, and Rotary Foundation. ~ The Newton Daily News (Limited access) Website, Newton, Iowa.
