H. L. Weston died at his home in Colfax yesterday morning after a brief illness. With the death of Mr. Weston Colfax loses one of the pioneers.
He came to Jasper County with the first settlers and used the present site where the Centropolis Hotel now stands for his cornfield.
Mr. Weston had held the position of mayor of Colfax, alderman and sheriff of Jasper County.
His six sons are in business in and near Colfax.
The funeral will occur tomorrow with Masonic honors. ~ The Newton (IA) News, Saturday, October 31, 1903, page 4, Column 2
