Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Vaughan arrived yesterday afternoon with the remains of Mrs. Mary Armstrong Lindley, and were met at the depot by friends, proceeding at once to the Congregational Church where the last sad rites were observed. The church had been prettily decorated and the services were appropriate and impressive.

Mrs. Lindley was born in Springfield, Mass., April 21, 1830. She was first married to an iron manufacturer of Brooklyn, N. Y. One day while he was passing along a street a piece of stone coping fell from a building, struck him on the head and injured him very badly. A piece of the stone penetrated the skull and was never removed. Physicians advised that he be brought west and they came to Knoxville, Iowa, where he later died.

Later she married Jehu Lindley, who was a prominent businessman of Knoxville, and during the war they moved to this city living here for many years. About two years ago Mrs. Lindley accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan to Anamosa, where she died last Saturday of dropsy, induced by enlargement of the liver.

Mrs. Lindley leaves but one living child, Mrs. Vaughan, to whom her death is a great sorrow, as it is to many warm friends.
